<2468412141618922>The ASP Site Search application is commented on each line of code to make it easier for a beginner to follow or to customise.

The Site Search application comes in two versions the Advanced version has more functions but requires that the web server has the VB Scripting Engine 5 or above installed. The other version has less features but will run on servers which haven't been updated with the later version of the VB Scripting Engine.

The application will search an entire page for matching keyword(s) or phrase and the advanced version will count how many times the keyword(s) or phrase are found on the page and display the results with the highest matches first.

By default the application is setup to search files with the extensions .asp, .htm, .html, .shtml, if you wish the application to search other file types you can easily place the extension name into the application at the beginning where indicated. Any files or folders that you don't want searched can be placed in the code where indicated so these files and folders are not searched.

The advanced version as well as displaying the highest matches first is also more accurate and displays the number of matches found on the page, the date the page was last updated, and the file size of the page.

Both versions of the application have been tested on IIS 4 on NT4, IIS 5 on Windows 2000, and IIS5.1 on Windows XP Pro, but for the Advanced version you need the latest version of the VB Scripting Engine (version 5 or above) installed on the web server.

Due to the complex nature of the application and the different ways directories are mapped on web servers, the application is not guaranteed to run on all web sites, so please check that the application runs with your web site on the web server before you take the time to customise it.

Please note that this application will only work with sites that use Western Character sets.
